Every October, the sky turns grey
Across North India, the end of the paddy harvest brings fires to the fields. Farmers have little time and few affordable options, so the straw is burnt — and the smoke settles over villages and cities alike.
What if the straw was never waste?
A tonne of straw carries real energy. Burning it releases that energy as smoke and carbon dioxide. We asked a simple question: could the same straw power clean industry instead?
Microbes that make hydrogen
Nature already has the answer. Certain bacteria, given plant sugars and no oxygen, release hydrogen gas. Kalon Energy was founded to turn that biology into a practical, scalable process built on agricultural waste.
From the lab towards the field
From our project office in Lucknow, our team of people from renewable energy, agriculture and environmental science works on every link of the chain — collecting residue, preparing it, and producing biohydrogen from it.
A revolution with many hands
Clean hydrogen from farm waste can only grow with farmers, students, researchers and industry alongside us. Through Kalon Academy, farmer partnerships and collaboration, we are building that community — and you are invited.
